Critical PHP Security Update: Actions Taken By Onswaziline & Next Steps for Your Site.
On October 21, 2026, the official PHP Development Team released emergency patches addressing two high-severity security vulnerabilities (CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619) affecting the PHP core.
These vulnerabilities can allow unauthorized external code execution on unpatched PHP environments. We are contacting you to outline the defensive measures onswaziline has deployed and the steps you should take to safeguard your website and data.
The Importance of PHP
PHP powers a significant share of the web. PHP remains the most widely used server-side programming language on the internet by a massive margin (approximately 69.3% to 71.8% of all websites). PHP footprint is so large due to the CMS Dominance (WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Magento, WooCommerce, Laravel and Symfony etc. Roughly 7 out of 10 dynamic websites on the internet rely on PHP, making it foundational infrastructure for the modern web.
What Onswaziline Has Done
- Server-Level Patching: Our team has already updated and rebooted all core web server runtimes, shared hosting clusters, and system-managed PHP engines to the newly patched versions (PHP 8.2.35, 8.3.36, 8.4.27, and 8.5.12).
What You (Customer) Should Do
While onswaziline protects the server hardware and base environment, application maintenance relies on your input:
- Check Your PHP Version: Verify that your website is running on PHP 8.2 or higher. If your site is using an older version (e.g., PHP 7.x or 8.0), please upgrade it via the control panel immediately.
- Update CMS & Plugins: Update WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Magento, or custom web frameworks (and all associated plugins/modules) to their latest stable releases to ensure full compatibility with patched PHP runtimes.
